I had mine done with kitchen designer, it was so easy, I have African black wood, Ivory colored cabinets, sub zero fridge and wolf appliances, marble countertops and a 24 sq ft hexagonal island, right in the middle with long hanging lights. Also there is a glass backsplash, my aplliances aren't covered with panels, I spent good money on them, everyone should know.

Self-closing and expensive... that's most likely the under mount drawer slides, they are the most expensive kind with the self-closing feature. Or they could be the side mount slide, which is a little cheaper. Thanks for the speedy reply!

Thanks! I can't remember the make of the slide. I can tell you that they were expensive and have that self-closing feature. Once the drawer gets close to the frame, it pulls tight on it's own.

Hi Tim, your kitchen looks great! I've been a cabinet maker and installer for 5 years, and who ever did your kitchen are pros. Its the little things you notice after you've done it for a while like the mitres on the furniture kick on the island, crown and valance. The gap between doors and drawers are even, and the colour is consistent throughout. Cherry is great to work with, soft and great to stain, although it does darken with age. I'm just curious about what kind of drawer slide you chose.

Thanks. Those are cherry cabinets. Maple is great, but be sure to do a test on several boards to see if you can get it to the color you want. Stain them and finish completely.

You can get graining kits that allow you to mimic stained wood. Go to a national-brand paint store, not a home center. Although you may discover the kit at a home center.

I found my girl friends cat on top of her ice chest once, the ice chest is inset in a cabinet like thing and the only way I could see the cat getting on top of it was jumping the whole 6ft strait up on top of it, and yes cats are always on counters. Keep up the great videos.

The counter was cleaned. When you have cats in a house they are always up on counters. Especially when you're out of the room or sleeping. We always clean the counters before use because of this. My wife loves cats. So if I don't like it, I can move out. :->

Tim, Great kitchen design. It looks as though you took your time and planned the remodel very well. It is amazing how much goes into the complete remodeling of a kitchen and how hectic things are around the house during that time but you can sure see from your video it was well worth it. 3 months is a long time to eat out but its worth it for the years of enjoyment that space will give you. Big fan Tim, but shouldnt you note that the primary reason for holding out from the blocks 3/4in, is so your studs and insulation dont sponge the moisture off the blocks and secondly... b/c of plumb issues? Keep the vids coming, we watch em'.

Yes, we use treated lumber on our bottom plates too. Secure them with glue and a Ramset. If your a DIY'er and don't have access to a ramset you can use cut nails, or case hardened nails. Be SURE to wear eye protection when pounding cut nails because they can spit off chunks of metal at high velocity. I have seen a guy get a chunk of steel in his arm pounding one of these nails.

If you have a moisture/mildew problem now, it is best not to finish your basement until that is fixed. After that, wood is the way to go. Metal studs will rust from the slightly damp air.

I didn't do the job in this video. It was a friend's kitchen. He was kind enough to let us follow his project. Thanks for your comment. My guess is that my friend would have all sorts of negative comments about the kitchen in your flipped home. That's why you see enormous variety in clothes, cars, and any consumer product. Just because you like something, doesn't mean others will agree with you.

The tray ceiling with the rope lighting is a nice effect. But the Kitchen in my opinion looks cold and dull. The flooring does not go with the kitchen's modern design ( should have been set in a diamond pattern) and white walls need to be dressed up with some kind of a back splash. Also, in my opinion, white appliances, faucet and fan are outdated. Stainless steel appliances and brushed nickle or rubbed bronze are in even in modern kitchens... the job was good, but the design/feel was lacking...

This is great stuff. I was 12 when this made, and didn't have access to the entire audio/visual output of the world. Therefore, I liked David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Argent, The Moody Blues, Arlo Guthrie and Neil Young. I would have ditched them in favor of The Stooges and Roxy Music, had the awful commercial radio stations of the time played their songs. Popular music always sucks - you have to look around too? much to find the good stuff! At least all music today is free.

Ye Ha! the early sound of Roxy Music, I used to listen to, and bought an album of these guys in the 70's. Still got the album, open out, but have no way of playing it. (woman on the cover) took from the album a long time ago. Lucky for me I do have a tape recording from the album mentioned. They were 'Raw & Dynamic' Bryan Ferry went horribly 'mushy' in the 90's. A lot of musicians, eg. Van Morrison and Elton John lost their early roots and never regained what they had, in my ears anyway.

There is no need to drill the holes that low so the screw goes into the cabinet. Most cabinets have a lip that extends up and down so you can set the screw without going inside the cabinet. It might not matter on normal doors but it shows on glass doors-and in my opinion is poor craftsmanship to open your cabinets and see screws in them.

I watched the other do it yourself videos and decided to hire a pro because the videos sucked, then I happened upon your series. We used everything from the firring to finish screws you all talked about. I did the kitchen myself with as your dad would say my able bodied assistant (my wife) and had 1200 left over for flooring.
