@gl00b3r5 He is. He's a Christian pastor. As an atheist I don't think it matters much what religion he follows but more about what his message is about. He has accomplished a great deal and overcame many hurdles and although I'm sure he would attribute that to a deity of some sort... it really is more of a tribute to the kind of person that he is. @shmutzman Yeah, this movie opened my eyes to what a director can do when he's just having fun. I've read that Scorcese made this after a nightmare experience with another film (a religious epic), and he was worried that he may not be taken seriously in Hollywood again. So he just let it fly and said screw it, I'm doing what feels right. My former roommate does mostly plays now, but he managed a decent role in Field of Dreams, as Costner's flashback dad playing catch with him in a cornfield.

My mother would not let me watch it at that time because she was afraid it would give me nightmares, and she was probably right. I didn't see it until many years later when I rented it. In a way the airburst attack would be much more devastating. the EMP would take out everything. No phones, no cars, no utilities, no food, no anything that depended on a computer to work. I remember the country coming to a standstill on November 20, 1983 for this 2hour made for TV ABC movie. There was a build-up to it. Soon after, it seemed, the Cold War seemed to lighten up. Gorbachev came to power in the USSR and soon after the Berlin Wall came down. I always thought this poorly scripted/casted poorlly made special effects (as least by today's hollywood standard) movie was the saviour of mankind, at least from nuclear holocaust.
